Guess I could say that my high school years were some of the best years of my life. So many great moments, friends and memories were made during those years. I think for me, along with the schooling part, it established a baseline for learning all about social skills and applying the golden rule with relationships. Thank goodness I made friends with the right folks. But looking back, most of the kids at MHS were the right folks. We all worked hard to graduate and to apply what was learned, both scholastic and social, to help us get on with our lives. I think we all were blessed to have had the caliber of teachers we had. Looking back at the ones I had, I can honestly say they were the best. I really would like to think Miss Perkins, Miss Taylor and Mrs. Whitfield are looking down and smiling because of what I am writing…please smile!
Things I Wish Had Never Happened
There was a girl in one of my classes that I thought was really cute and I wanted to get to know her better. It was a Saturday morning and I decided I would call her. Since I, in my completely ignorant mind, didn’t want her to think I really liked her (?), I came up with a completely stupid opening line, and it went something like this…
rrring, answer.
Her, “Hello?”
me…”Hey there. This is Mike Morris.
Her…”Oh yeah, hi, how are you?”
me…”Ok, I guess…I didn’t have much to do this morning, so I thought I’d give you a call”.
Now at the time, I thought this would be such a cool and non committed start to a casual conversation that she would really want to talk to me. Well, the next thing I heard was the dial tone….
I guess she was busy!
Yeah, but you were still ‘cool,’ as compared to a whole bunch of us other guys.
I remember how difficult it was to continue the phone call after the initial greetings. And that was especially true if the girl didn’t help. Wish I could go back to those days if I could go knowing what I know now. Probably applies to 99.9% of us.
