After graduation from MHS I wanted to get out of Midland in the worst way.
Jerry Petree and I joined the Navy on the buddy plan to see the world.
After training and school, Jerry went to Hawaii and I went to submarine
school in Connecticut.
I served aboard four submarines, two that were WW2 era subs and two
nuclear subs. I was transferred off the Thresher just before it went down. (I
lost my very close shipmate and friend Eddie Bobbitt and 128 other
shipmates when the sub was lost at sea).
After the Navy I attended college and worked in the commercial nuclear field
for 28 years in the construction, operations and design. I worked several
years at both the two nuclear power plants in Texas.
My last big adventure was opening restaurants in Corpus Christi. I sold my
last restaurant located on Padre Island three years ago and retired to
Horseshoe Bay, TX.
Along the way, while in Connecticut I married a beautiful nurse named
Pauline. We have been married 47 years and raised 4 great kids, 2 aggies and
2 teasippers. One Vet, one Architect, one PA and a business MBA.
The wife of Cmdr John Lyman lives in our community. What eatery did you have in Corpus?
